THE
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ESTATE AGENTS
This
National Association was formed in 1962 to represent the interests of
estate agents, especially those not otherwise professionally qualified,
and to raise professional standards. It now has in the region of
10,000 members throughout the UK and it is widely recognised throughout
the profession. All NAEA members must adhere to strict rules of
conduct and the Association provides recourse through its disciplinary
procedures. It also operates a guarantee bonding scheme - to protect
purchase deposits (either pre-contract or contract) held by a member - and
a referral network of member agents throughout the UK and overseas, called
'Homelink'.
The Association believes that the public must receive competent and honest
service and advice, including protection against fraud, misrepresentation
and malpractice. It aims to make apparent to the public that they are
likely to receive this from a member by the general standard of
presentation of the member's office and conduct of the staff.
The most obvious way in which the NAEA protects consumers is by admitting
to membership only those estate agents who have undergone thorough
assessment of their knowledge of estate agency law, practice and ethics.
The NAEA publishes a range of informative leaflets, all of which are
available from their Warwick headquarters:
