Looking
North to Pewley Down
|
his
area to the northeast of Guildford has become become more and more
desirable as the network of the many tree lined roads have spread
out towards Send and West Clandon. This
prime residential neighbourhood is particularly sought after due to
four or five main factors that all revolve around easy access to:
excellent road communications, good schools, good shopping,
attractive countryside and a varied selection of housing meeting the
needs of different budgets.
|

Typical of the style of new homes in the area
|
Despite
the high recommendation of the general area for a home, it must be
acknowledged that there are large areas where houses are found
within a tight network of several private estates ~ some of which
have more character than others. The population is therefore
quite dense in a small locality and the neighbourhood could be
accused of lacking a bit of character in places. However
the older and more established roads are very attractive indeed with a high
percentage of detached family homes. It is generally an
expensive side of town for all the reasons
explained.

St Lukes' Church at Burpham
|
A small parade of shops is located on the London Road in
Burpham and on the Epsom Road in Merrow. The
well regarded state secondary George Abbot School is centred
in the heart of this area. A large Sainsburys
superstore is situated on the outskirts close to the A3 slip
road. Almost opposite is the pretty church above in one of the
quaintest parts of Burpham. Beyond the A3 bridge is Burpham Court Farm Park
on the way to Jacobs Well.

Welcome to Guildford on the
A25 at Merrow
|
This is a residential suburban extension of Guildford with a few old houses left
near St John’s church which was rebuilt by RC Hussey in 1842.
It is on a narrow bend in the road at the bottom of Trodds Lane, one of the
prettiest areas of Merrow. Roads leading up
Merrow Downs on the south side of the Epsom
Road have generally more history and character than the newer
estates.
