Guildford Town ~ Showing main through roads, some features and four independent schools

Location for a home ~ Comment:  Highly recommended for a town centre lifestyle.

Watch out warnings:  This is the centre of a busy town so one must expect some of the hassle that comes with such a lifestyle. Living in close proximity with others brings its own obvious disadvantages as well as advantages, so make sure it suits you!

Guildford Town Centre Homes

he residences around Guildford town are at a premium, in particular those within walking distance of the main line station.  Tight in close to the centre itself there are many Victorian terraced homes and those with off road parking are particularly hard to find.  Bigger 20th century houses and flats are well represented too within the wider area.  The River Wey winds its way north through this part of town and presents surprisingly attractive spots along its bank despite the built up surroundings see Dapdune Wharf (National Trust) above.  Also the Council Offices and Yvonne Arnaud Theatre are on its banks frequently swept by willow trees, but the stark and plain appearance of Debenhams stores was an unfortunate addition to the landscape in this part of town.  Of note in the area is The Surrey County Cricket Ground on the Woodbridge Road close to the railway bridge.

Pilgrims Way, Guildford - prime residential road

The larger Victorian houses are established along the Epsom Road and London Road to the east of town, but many of them are now split into dental surgeries, offices and flats. The bigger detached family houses on prime residential roads extend on a network away from the town centre mostly to the south and east (not covered on the above map).

Mount Alvernia Private Hospital in Pewley Way is shown on the lower right hand side of the map near Addison Road  Tel: 01483 570122.  The old St Lukes Hospital site is now a large private residential estate built recently by Crest Homes and in some parts still in stages of construction.
