St Mary's Church
|
end
is a large village which is essentially made up of recent decades' housing
bordering the Woking-Clandon Road. The
photographs chosen on this page show the prettiest views in the area, but are
not typical of the rather more mundane central area. The few shops in the
village and the recreation ground represent the modern centre of Send, but the
more expected traditional centre, around the church, is in fact very
remote. At some distance to the south west St Mary's Church
stands rather isolated with only one large house and farm forming the
group. However, this is a most attractive spot bordering the banks of
the River Wey amidst rolling fields and it is certainly worth
discovering.

|
As a point of interest
across the fields to the south are the grounds to Sutton Place, one of
Surrey's most important historic houses, which also just happens to be over
the Borough boundary in Woking. To the north along Potters Lane
there is further delightful countryside leading to Cartbridge where the
A247 emerges to cross above the River Wey. Mostly to the east of
Send there are several inland lakes made out of disused excavation works, some
have given way to the use of sailing clubs.
This generally low lying area encourages a dampness of the land and the flat
terrain here probably accounts for the name of Send's closest neighbour at Send
Marsh.

The Manor House at Send Marsh
|
In
Send Marsh to the north east of the main
village is the majestic Manor House, a three-storey red brick
17th century
property facing a tiny green and dwarfing other surrounding homes.
