Suggested
ideas for your
'Why Move'
priorities list:
1) Look at Alternatives:
What do you need that your present home can't offer? Can improving,
extending or re-mortgaging your home solve the question(s)?
2) Look at affects on:
Finances, lifestyle, friends, family, work, commuting and
leisure?
3) A new location:
The best reason of all to move - it's the one
definite thing that your present home can't offer and it's so important
to get it right every time.
4) To
buy or rent?
This may be obvious to you - but
then again maybe not - spare at least a moment's thought on this
point.
5) Timing
- perhaps a more crucial question than you might think!
Consider what is due to happen in your life and watch forecasts in the
wider economy. The time of year itself even has an effect.
If you're
decided on moving then let's look at:
6) Needs from your new home? Identify
your priorities:
*Location,
location, location:
Get the message - this should never come second! Think especially roads,
noise, safety, quality of life and lots more.
*Size and type of property and garden:
Consider the rooms you must
have as a minimum in your new home and the acceptable size of
garden.
*Style of home:
Generally character and period homes still have the biggest following.
*How long are you likely to be there:
Short-term renting may be your best move, but if you're buying
and your next home is likely to be 'a stepping stone' think about how
easy it will be to sell (or let) again.
*Compromises:
Avoid compromises on location or on a property
smaller than you need (without the potential to extend). These may
prove to be crucial mistakes once you've moved in. Most
other factors are often negotiable.
