Why
Move?
eople
do it all time don't they, but it doesn't mean it's easy! In
fact you're about to embark on one of life's most stressful events,
so we'll help you do some homework now and make sure it's worth it!
List
your priorities and know when to compromise. First
of all it may assist to actually write down your reasons for moving - this
list will be useful to refer to later. It is easy to let
the enthusiasm for moving over-rule the logic so remember in
reality moving is always expensive, emotionally draining and hard work,
but people do it and enjoy it! So can you! Click
on our smiley notepad for some suggestions for your priority list.
Affordability must
be one of your main
priorities - avoid an ambitious
dream being financed by a life-time of hard work. Don't
let this quote apply to you: "Home - where's home? It's the place I
pay
all the bills for, but rarely see!" Be
realistic and perhaps accept a huge effort in the short-term, but not
endless sacrifices that can cost you relationships and far too much leisure
time! Your planning
must also include knowledge of and preparation for the actual costs of
moving. You may have to allow several thousands of pounds for
moving
expenses in addition to the price of your new home.
Don't rush in where angels fear to tread.
At best most things may fall into place and the whole
experience will go well, but equally you will run the risk of facing
disappointment. Be methodical - an organised approach is essential to reduce some of
the stress and still be prepared for unexpected obstacles and disappointments.
Even if you're lucky your move will still absorb much of your
valuable time and energy. What's more you're likely to find that you
may have little control over some crucial stages of moving, third
parties especially may upset your plans and timing too easily. For these reasons
become as fatalistic as possible, if it is meant to be - it
will be. If not, be positive, something better is round the
corner.
