The local town tour
The
local town is within easy walking distance for the St
John's students providing needed access to shops
and other facilities. Although
the school students require a pass to leave the
school property these are readily available but strictly
policed.
Five miles North of Dorking on the
A24 and on higher ground, nearest neighbours are Fetcham and Great Bookham
to the West
and Ashtead to the East. Leatherhead town centre is free of
through traffic and has a nucleus of shops in and around
the Swan Centre.
Not
too far away from the Leatherhead
town centre,
just to the west, is
the river Mole. This
provides a very beautiful and peaceful setting
to those who live in and around the town. For the
St. Johns students the river provides an excellent
environment for nature studies and leisure
time walks.
Leatherhead
provides an excellent transport system and is
served by bus, train, and road. The bus services
run to all the local major towns including
Dorking, Guildford, Reigate, Epsom and of course
London. Trains run at least every 15 to 20 minutes
during the day to London via Waterloo, and
Victoria, operating more frequently during the
rush hour periods. Located
just a half mile off junction 9 of the M25
connects Leatherhead with easy access to all major
commuting roads and all southern counties. In
particular the M25 motorway access to the
major London airports placing Leatherhead just 45
minutes from Heathrow and Gatwick (via the M23).
This connection provides excellent access for all
our international overseas students.
Finally,
Leatherhead is a peaceful almost sleepy town with
the main shopping areas restricted to pedestrians
only providing a convenient and safe shopping area
just a 5-10 minute walk from the main school quad.
